Happy Labor Day!!!
The US Department of Labor describes the holiday as: “a creation of the Labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers”.
Labor Day is the first Monday of September, which is September 3rd this year. It’s usually celebrated with parades, parties, cookouts and end of Summer vacations. Below is the list of Oklahoma events to help you celebrate.
Aug. 28 – Sept. 1
FREE Payne County Free Fair at the Payne County Expo Center (4518 Expo Circle E, Stillwater) features livestock shows, a wide variety of agricultural exhibits, a carnival, fair food and more. See fair guide of a complete schedule of events.
Aug. 30 – Sept. 2
Oktoberfest at Choctaw Creek Park (Harper Rd. between NE 23rd Street and NE 10th Street, Choctaw) features homemade German food & continuous live entertainment for all ages, plus German dance groups and crafts & activities for children. FREE Friday Evening Glow at RIVERSPORT Adventures (800 Riversport Dr) features live music by Arkansauce, craft beer & cocktails. 6 – 10:30 p.m.
Aug. 31 – Sept. 2
Izumicon at the Reed Conference Center (5750 Will Rogers Rd, Midwest City) features a three day comic and entertainment convention with well known actors and voice actors, panels, video games, table top gaming, cosplay, and more. $30 – $65. See website for a complete schedule of events.
Sept. 1
FREE Fishing Days in OKC (various locations). The City of Oklahoma City offers FREE fishing on the first Saturday of each month at city lakes and ponds. No city permit is required; however a State license is for anyone 16 and older.
FREE Saturday for Kids at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (1700 NE 63rd St). Enjoy blacksmithing demonstrations and a create-your-own metal foil drawing. For ages 4 – 12. Free for children and accompanying adults. 10 a.m. – noon.
FREE Fort Sill Air Show at Henry Post Army Air Field (4907 Post Rd, Fort Sill) features more than 20 displays including historic aircraft, 15 flight demonstrations, artillery displays and a kid zone. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
FREE Superhero School at New World Comics (6219 N Meridian Ave) features amazing super heroes and on occasion a villian or two. 10:30 – noon.
FREE Red Brick Nights Street Festival in Downtown Guthrie (Oklahoma & Wentz Ave, Guthrie) features rotating pop-up shops, food trucks and live music. 5 p.m.

FREE Labor Day Celebration at the Chickasaw Cultural Center (867 Cooper Memorial Dr, Sulphur) features stomp dance and cultural demonstrations, plus special activities in the living village. Saturday, 10 a.m – 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon – 5 p.m.

Labor Day Weekend Fun at RIVERSPORT Rapids (800 Riversport Dr) features fun activities including RIVERSPORT Rodeo, whitewater rafting, RIVERSPORT Adventures, yard games and more. Prices vary.
Labor Day Weekend Fun at RIVERSPORT Lake Overholser Boathouse (3115 E Overholser Dr) features kayaks, paddle boards and canoes as well as land adventures including a climbing wall and dual zip line. Prices vary.
Sept. 2
FREE Safari Sunday Funday at Safari Dental (7221 E Reno Ave, Midwest City) features a live DJ, karaoke contest with prizes, snacks, drinks, FREE school supplies face painting, free kid’s dental checks and more. 2 – 5 p.m.
Family Skate Night at Skate Galaxy (5800 NW 36th St). Admission includes skate rental and the family package also includes pizza and drinks for up to five family members. $6; family package, $29. 6 – 8 p.m.
Sept. 3
FREE First Mondays for Kids at Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History (2401 Chautauqua Ave, Norman) offers complimentary admission for kids 17 & under. General admission does apply to guests 18 and older. Adults, $8; seniors (65+), $6; kids (17 & under), FREE. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
FREE Labor Day Celebration in Henryetta (Main Street, Henryetta) features a parade, games for all ages, concerts, a carnival, rodeo and an impressive fireworks display at dusk as well as a car, bike & tractor show. 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Labor Day Special at Pelican Bay (1034 S Bryant Ave, Edmond) features $5 admission. Noon – 5 p.m.
Hot Dog Skate at Skate Galaxy (5800 NW 36th St) includes basic skate rental, hotdog & drink. $6. 1 – 4 p.m.
Doggie Paddle at Reno Swim & Slide (101 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City). Bring your canine for a fun evening of water time. Each canine must be accompanied by an adult. $6 per dog. 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Labor Day – Let It Glow Event at Westwood Family Aquatic Center (2400 Westport Dr, Norman) features a family-friendly party with a DJ, glow products, and dancing. $5. 8:30 -10:30 p.m.

The artworks analyze the complex relationship between contemporary Chickasaw life and rich tribal history and culture. A Sense of Time and Place: Work by Greg Burns at Oklahoma History Center (800 Nazih Zuhdi) features ten drawings and paintings that have been chosen by the artist specifically for display at the History Center. A graduate in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma, his intricate pen-and-ink drawings and watercolors have received international recognition.
