Simple Home Care Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make!

Taking care of one’s home is quite a large task. There’s so many products out there and so little time to get everything done! We wanted to share some common mistakes that the majority of us are making on a regular basis. Do any of these come as a surprise to you? Leave us a story in the comments section below!

1. Spraying glass cleaner onto mirrors. Did you know this can actually damage a mirror? Spraying directly onto the glass can lead to “black edge,” which is when liquid seeps beneath the reflective backing and literally leaves a black edge around your mirror. Rather than using cleaner, use a lint-free microfiber cloth dampened with warm water.

2. Go easy on the mulch! Mulch is a great way to add curb appeal to your home as well as help keep those darn weeds away, but be careful not to use too much as it can prevent water from reaching the roots of your plants. A good rule of thumb is no more than 3 inches of mulch in your flower beds.

3. Be sure you’re using the right caulk for the job. There are about as many caulks as their are shades of nail polish it seems like! Certain caulks are made for certain jobs, so inquire about the different kinds at your home improvement store so your time and money is most efficiently used.

4. Make sure you’re piling firewood in a safe area. Many people know not to stack firewood against your house as this can encourage termites to invade your home. But do you know the recommended number of feet you should stack wood away from your home? At least 20 feet! So check the firewood on your property and ensure it’s located in an area that doesn’t eventually bring insects into your home.
