Happy Armed Forces Day!

Thank you to all of the United States military personnel for the sacrifices you make for our freedom. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day create unification under one department, the Department of Defense. We are thankful to live in a country where we are free to celebrate our patriotism, which would not be possible without our dedicated armed forces and guardians of peace.

There will be an Armed Forces Day parade in Lawton, OK on May 21st. It will begin at 10:00am and is located at 6th Street and “C” Avenue. It has been said in years past that it is the largest Armed Forces Day parade in the Nation with more than 100 participants marching in Lawton Fort Sill’s procession! Bands, community and business floats, military officials and veterans will unite in tribute to the men and women who are presently serving our Nation, as well as our Veterans. This showing of patriotism helps to affirm the community’s support for our local soldiers and soldiers living overseas. Admission is free to everyone.
