Decorating Tips for Creating A Beautiful Home!
Decorating your home is an exciting process! However, it can be overwhelming when making decisions on what to buy and what looks best to you. First, you want to set your decorating goals. Are you selling, renting or decorating your family home for years to come? If you are decorating your permanent home, think about what your style is. Do some research- buy magazines and highlight what you love, go look at paint colors, search different home design boards on Pinterest, or you can hire a personal decorator– but be prepared to spend the extra cash.
If you are preparing your home to rent or sell, its best to keep your design approach conservative. A style that you love may be a turn off to potential tenants/buyers when touring the home. A few accent pieces are great, but you want the overall tone to be neutral so they can imagine themselves living there. No matter what your decorating goals are, we have some ideas that will surely help!
Choose a feature piece that is most important to you and design around it. It will be the “tone setter” in your room and the first thing that captures attention. This can be a nice piece of furniture, a large art piece hung on the wall, or a beautiful chandelier. If you have tall, over-sized windows, you can even use window treatments to be your signature piece.
How large is the room you are purchasing furniture for? It’s important to measure the dimensions and be sure you don’t buy something too big that will not fit. Match the furniture scale to the overall scale of the room. Large furniture in a smaller room will look out of place and cause the space feel cramped. Whether your room is large or small, its best not to push furniture against the walls. It will cause large rooms to loose their ‘welcoming’ feel and small rooms to appear even smaller.
Accomplish your unique look buy avoiding everything that matches. Mix it up. Create your own style by visiting different stores, antique shops, boutiques, or even flea markets and add something to your room from each place. Remember that decorating is a process, it takes weeks or even months to achieve the final result. And even then, you will probably want to change something around!
