Not Your Average Valentine’s Day

If you’re anything like me, you anticipate the Holiday Season to decorate your home. I find joy in putting ornaments on my Christmas tree, streaming festive lights above the patio, and watching classic Christmas films with my family by the warm fire. Now that the winter holidays have passed and the New Year has come, I thought of a wild idea—how can I give some extra love to my HOME for Valentine’s Day this year?

In our culture, Valentine’s Day is classically celebrated by exchanging cards or gifts with someone special, but I’m talking about showing love to your home. You’re probably thinking, “The last thing I have time for is decorating and cleaning up after another holiday.” It doesn’t have to be about purchasing decorations. It could be as simple as cleaning out an old closet or organizing that dreadful Tupperware cabinet (because we all have one), painting the guest room, washing your windows; etc. If you want to embellish your home with pink garland and red hearts for Valentine’s Day, that’s great; however, if you can find just ONE overdue task that you and your family could benefit from, your home will look fresh and you will feel accomplished!

For many of us, our homes are our safe-havens away from the world. I love my home because it is serene and inviting, but there are areas that need extra attention. My goal for this Valentine’s Day is to take inventory of my unsettled closet and donate what I no longer wear. Myself, my closet, and someone in need will all benefit from it, and its easy to do. It’s a win-win situation that you will not regret!
