It’s time to WINTERIZE your home!

Its starting to feel a lot like WINTER out there!

With the cold weather outside, heaters are probably beginning to start up and the house is about to warm up. Which also means its time to get the house ready for winter before it’s too cold. The RED Team has looked up ways to help you winterize your home! There are multiple steps that include things such as checking for air leaks and proper insulation. Some of the steps may sound obvious, but it’s always nice to have a reminder. If a house isn’t insulated properly it could be a huge cost to keep your home warm and cozy. There are multiple steps worth following to keep your home cozy and cost efficient.  The RED Team wants you to take advantage of your home and keep the warmth inside your house! Let us know if you want to move into a new, cozy home! Here are just a few tips we recommend to prepare your home for winter!

  • change your air filters
  • check to make sure your heater is working properly
  • unhook your outside water houses
  • check your weather stripping on your doors to make sure it is sealing correctly
  • close your flue damper to keep the warm air inside unless you are lighting a fire
  • make sure your chimney is clean an free of debris or nests (if it has been several years, you should have it cleaned by a professional chimney sweep)
  • check your roof for missing or damaged shingles and have them replaced, if needed
  • winterize your sprinkler system
  • if your deck needs it, consider giving it a new coat of sealer and/or stain
  • you can use insulated curtains or move big furniture to the outside walls to keep the heat inside your home
  • run ceiling fans clockwise to keep heat inside
