Dark Paint on the Exterior…

I wanted to share this with all of my friends because I have never thought that dark paint on the outside of a home would cause a problem. Long story short, about a month ago, one of my clients asked if I could help them sell their home.  So, we started preparing their home to go on the market and we all decided the exterior of the home needed to be painted. Then, the sellers asked me what color should they should have the trim/siding painted.  I thought, since their brick was light, they should go with a darker paint for contrast.  They picked a chocolate brown, they had it painted and we moved on. A week after the home was freshly painted, the sellers noticed their siding looked messed up and the hotter the days, the more the siding bubbled and melted. So why did I want to share this with you? If you have siding, that is not made of wood and it is on the West side, do not paint it a DARK color. The siding can get so hot that you could risk it melting, bubbling or the paint could totally ruin it.
