Internet and banking fraud
What a informational MARC meeting last week led by Sara Maulsby from Coppermark Bank! She walked us through a few steps to protect ourselves from fraud, viruses, worms and spyware.
Here are a few key points I’d like to share with you:
-truly know your friends on the social websites
-change your internet passwords often
-do not get “click happy” on web links
-check your bank accounts weekly
and your credit card statements monthly
-reduce your rights on your computer from the administrator to a standard account user
-keep your anti virus/anti-spyware software up to date and use a well known company
-install a firewall on your computer
-shred all important documents
Coppermark Bank helps reduce the risk of fraud by offering time restrictions on Internet banking, providing key phob access codes, IP restrictions and more! Go to www.coppermarkbank.com for more information on their services and also check out www.staysafeonline.org for more tips to keep you Internet safe.
Other tips missing from your list. Be sure your wireless wifi router has the strongest security protection settings available. Make passwords at least eight characters in length composed of letters, numbers and allowable special characters. Use a paypal or wikipay account for payments rather than your direct card number.
